I don't suppose there will be another type of enemy that appears?
Maybe something a little more unexpected suddenly appearing.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Seriously though I was thinking about Your memory problem when I remembered a game called compac listed in zx computing magazine. The author used a compression technique He called "quinbit decoding" as a space saver. I have managed to find a link to said article, go to the page and look at jpg's 841000100 to 84100105, also if memory serves this listing had a problem which was cleared up in the next issue (something to do with line 9999). I have attached working p file .

ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sincl ... 410/Pages/

Hope this helps in some way.
Regards Moggy

Cheers Moggy! I am currently compressing the levels to about 20% of their original size, but I have been considering a more 'intelligent' way of holding the levels using a combination of methods, including one similar to that described in your link. I'll let you know how it goes.

Yup, that's on the to-do list - something a bit faster that moves diagonally is one idea.

New build!

Same link as before - http://www.bobs-stuff.co.uk/extras/virus_wip.zip (will always be this link until release) - with the following updates:

* Once the virus has been purged you must now head for the exit.
* Three levels are now in the game.
* Collectable objects flash to make them stand-out from the background.
* Remaining health, ammo & keys compliment to score at end of level.
* Health slowly drained.
* QUIT key added.
* New enemy type added - I've space for four different enemies, and the new one appears on the second level. (A third enemy has been designed)

I'll be adding skill levels, cheat codes, SAVE option, and more levels soon.

One more key-press would do: a pause key :-)

Again, superb work!

What about a smart bomb? One time only use, kills everything on the screen.

My current build now has the pause key (for Shaun), and the cheat-codes for infinite health/ammo/keys (for Moggy).

I had a play with re-doing the compressed format, but nothing has quite come close to running the whole map through a good compressor, so I'm sticking with that. Should be able to get 8 levels into the final build, which I'd be very happy with.

Smart bomb? Maybe, I'd have to re-work the HUD, and assign a key for it. Will see after I've got some more levels in. What do you think - one per level, or perhaps 3 for the entire game?

Thanks for that bobs but I'm sure I asked for 3000,000 smart bombs (just to be on the safe side I really am that crap) :lol: !!!
