Our visitor guestbooks provide a
simple means for visitors to your site to leave comments. You
can specify whether you wish to be emailed if there are no messages posted for a
specified number of days - this
may indicate that your web-site cannot be accessed or needs to be
better publicized. If you set the length of time to notify you if
no activity to zero below, no emails will be sent to
you.
You will also need to specify a password to be
used by the guestbook administrator - your logon will be the email address
specified on this page. Please note that passwords are case sensitive and
the better passwords are a mixture of letters (both upper and lower case) and
numbers.
We automatically provide maintenance for your
guestbook, if required. This will delete entries which are older than a
specified number of days, provided always that no entries are deleted if this
would reduce the number of entries in the guestbook below the specified
minimum. Setting any of these values to zero will prevent maintenance on
this guestbook.
Email addresses may be hidden from entries in
the guestbook, in which case a CONTACT ME button will be placed against each
entry. Anyone wishing to contact that person will have to complete a form
giving their name, address, email details and message, which are then forwarded
to the guestbook owner for the owner to send onto the intended recipient.
This allows you to vet any messages sent to people who have left an entry on the
guestbook, for example to ensure that commission is charged on Wanted or For
Sale adverts.
You can also ask the maintenance routines to
collate all email addresses which are entered by users of your guestbook.
This could be used at a later stage to allow you to mailshot users of your site
(although this is not yet supported by us).
Another useful option, is the ability to parse
text comments entered by people using your guestbook, and eliminate swear
words. This may be extended in the future to offer additional filters -
any ideas would be most welcome.
